A million-token context window and true Workspace integration make Gemini the obvious pick for Google shops. Outside them, it is merely very good.
Gemini 1.5 Pro's defining feature remains its million-token context window — still the largest available at the consumer $20 price point. In practice this means you can drop an entire codebase, a 400-page contract, or three hours of meeting transcripts into one conversation and query it directly. In our long-document test (a 260-page policy PDF with 25 buried factual questions), Gemini answered 22 correctly in a single pass; the nearest rival managed 17 and required chunking the document.
If your organisation runs on Google Workspace, Gemini stops being a chatbot and becomes an ambient layer: drafting in Docs, formula help in Sheets, summarising threads in Gmail, and recapping Meet calls. In our two-week team trial, participants reported meaningfully less tab-switching, and Meet's AI recaps were accurate enough to replace manual minutes for internal calls. No bolt-on integration from Anthropic or OpenAI feels this native inside Google's apps — because it can't.
Blind writing panels still favour Claude for long-form prose, and ChatGPT's plugin/GPTs ecosystem remains broader. Gemini's answers occasionally hedge or refuse where competitors comply. And outside the Google ecosystem, its integration advantage evaporates entirely — a Microsoft 365 shop gets little from it that a rival wouldn't provide.
| Plan | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini (free) | $0 | Capable default model, tighter limits |
| Google One AI Premium | $20/month | Gemini Advanced (1.5 Pro), Workspace integration, 2TB storage |
The bundled 2TB of Google One storage is an underrated sweetener — for anyone already paying for storage, the effective price of the AI drops to roughly $10/month.
If your team lives in Google Workspace, Gemini Advanced is the default choice — the native integration and million-token context are genuinely differentiated, and the storage bundle sweetens the price. If you're not on Workspace, the calculus flips: Claude wins for writing quality, ChatGPT for ecosystem, and Gemini becomes a strong second choice rather than the obvious first.
