2026 pricing trends: what we're seeing
The first four months of 2026 show a clear pattern: mid-market AI writing tools are under pricing pressure from Claude and ChatGPT, leading to a split between tools raising prices (Jasper, Midjourney Pro) to justify their premium and tools cutting prices (Writesonic, Otter, Suno) to compete on value.
The enterprise tier is expanding across almost every category. Perplexity launched an enterprise tier. GitHub added Enterprise to Copilot. Intercom continues to develop enterprise features for Fin. This reflects the maturation of AI from individual experiment to organisational infrastructure.
AI tool prices for consumer and SMB tiers are generally stable to slightly declining in 2026, driven by competitive pressure among Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini at the $20/month level. Enterprise and specialist tool prices are rising as vendors pursue higher-value customer segments.
The most important signal for 2026: the $20/month price point is becoming the standard for capable general-purpose AI. Tools that can't justify a meaningful premium over this price point are under pressure to either cut prices or add differentiated features.
